KOTL Cigar Club September 2023

September has proven to be the serendipitous birth month of our endeavors, seemingly without conscious intent. It all began when we unfurled the Cigar Dagger banner in September of 2019. Following the resounding global success of that initial venture, our passion for cigars led us down a path to expand our horizons. We ventured into the realms of cigar retail, manufacturing, and, naturally, introduced our exclusive Cigar of the Month club. Fast forward exactly four years from that momentous first step with Cigar Dagger, and here we are, proudly unveiling the KOTL Premium Cigar Club. The debut of this new chapter was nothing short of spectacular.

We find ourselves humbled beyond words by the unwavering support and trust you have placed in us. Your faith in us to consistently curate five (and sometimes six) premium cigars each month is a priceless gift. We want to convey our deepest gratitude for making our debut truly exceptional. The months ahead hold great promise, and we eagerly anticipate collectively building upon the foundation of quality, craftsmanship, and unwavering loyalty that we have begun to establish. Daruma - Room 101

This work of art from Room 101, also known as the Daruma, made its initial debut in 2012, much to the delight of devoted boutique cigar fans. Given its resounding success in 2012, it's only fitting that it's made a return. The 2023 iteration of the Daruma is a full-bodied Nicaraguan puro made by Oliva, and available as a limited edition with just 2,000 boxes released.

The name "Daruma" draws inspiration from the Japanese Daruma doll, which serves as both a visual representation of one's aspirations and a persistent reminder to persevere until those dreams are fulfilled. Once the desired goal is attained, tradition dictates that the Daruma doll is ceremoniously set aflame, symbolizing the realization of one's ambitions. We are very proud to be the only club to include the limited Daruma.

Royal Blood - Cigar Dagger

With a name like Royal Blood, this cigar is clearly crafted for the more regal among us. This first of two releases from our sister company Cigar Dagger, it would be remiss of us not to mention this hard-to-find treasure is available only on our right royal website here at kingoftheleaf.com. Royal Blood is an epic journey into full-bodied flavor and smooth smokability. The kind of cigar that should accompany one into battle, to be smoked only at the moment of inevitable victory.

Serena Maduro - Matilde

In the realm of Spanish language, "serena" embodies a profound sense of tranquility, calmness, and relaxation. The perfect atmosphere for the cherished ritual of Cigar smoking.

Just as its name implies, the Serena Maduro stands as the embodiment of boldness and depth, a darker iteration of its predecessor, the original Serena, which donned an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper. Elevating the sensory experience, the Maduro flaunts a Mexican San Andres wrapper, a Dominican Criollo '98 binder, and a harmonious blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican Republic fillers. The result is a cigar that envelops your palate with a rich tapestry of flavors, striking a harmonious balance between intensity and finesse. Each Serena Maduro is a testament to artistry, handcrafted at Tabacalera Palma in the Dominican Republic.

Girls Guns Gold - Caldwell

Introducing the Girls Guns Gold Lancero, the newest addition to the Caldwell Crafted and Curated collection. This exquisite cigar boasts a substantial 7 1/4 x 38 Lancero size, enveloped in a lustrous Connecticut Desflorada wrapper that gleams like polished gold.

Desflorado wrappers and the intricate process involved are a rarity within the industry, with only a select few brands having ventured into this distinctive territory. Here's the intriguing process at play: Tobacco plants are adorned with exquisite white and violet blossoms that unfurl at the pinnacle of the plant. Within these delicate flowers resides the vital pollen and seeds essential for the plant's reproduction. Consequently, a significant portion of the plant's nutrients is channeled into nurturing these blossoms. By the transformative act of "deflowering" the plant, aptly termed desflorado, the plant's valuable nutrients and sugars are redirected, concentrating their essence directly into the leaves. After the leaves have been carefully harvested, meticulously processed, and skillfully rolled, the end result emerges as a cigar of remarkable potency. The timing of this deflowering process plays a pivotal role—the earlier the flowers are removed, the greater the strength the tobacco will possess. This is precisely why some farmers opt to eliminate the flowers when they are still in the budding stage.

While the specifics of the binder and fillers remain shrouded in secrecy, what isn't concealed are the lush, creamy flavors that this mellow to medium-strength cigar offers. As with all Crafted & Curated creations, these cigars are a rare gem, characterized by their extreme limited availability.

The Reserva Original line, initially conceived for the European market, stands as a pioneering creation. It proudly holds the distinction of being the first cigar crafted solely from organic tobaccos. Among its offerings, the Plasencia Reserva Original Cortez shines as a mild to medium-bodied perfecto, measuring at 5 3/4 x 56.

This extraordinary cigar boasts a remarkable claim: it is the world's sole organic cigar, crafted entirely from tobacco certified by the Organic Crop Improvement Association. What's more, every element within it has been aged an additional five years post-curing and fermentation. The tobacco itself, hailing from the lush regions of Esteli and Jalapa, Nicaragua, is cultivated in the fashion of the Nicarao Indians, a tradition spanning over five centuries. The Plasencia Reserva Original offers a taste that mirrors the very essence that captivated Europeans over five centuries ago when they first set foot in the New World. Expect to savor notes of nuts, fruits, and caramel, all with delicate nuances of marzipan, culminating in a satisfying finish with hints of cedar.
